What do you know about your Chakras?

Learn how to detect an imbalance of your chakras, how they each affect your body sysems, emotions and physical body, and what you can do about it!

In the simplest terms... our bodies are like batteries, we have currents of energy through our entire flesh suit, and chakras are areas of concentrated energy, also called energy centers, where these flows of energy intersect. I have an extensive chakras training course if you're interested in learning more about these...for now, enjoy this FREE workshop on Chakras!

First, let's go over their locations and names...don't worry, you don't have to remember the Sanskrit names!

Chakra #1 - Root - Muladhara

Starting with your ROOT. This chakra is located on all the parts you're sitting on...or where the seam of your pants is the bulkiest...yes...the bottom-most point of your torso! This includes your anus (omg what?!), your perineum (aka Taint...whoah, I came here for chakras, not anatomy!) and your genitals. (Okay, I'm blushing.) You get the point!

If you were to grow roots...it would be from here, right?!

Chakra #2 - Sacral - Svadhisthana

From your root, bring your attention up to where your internal reproductive area is, below your belly button between the pointy parts of your hips, that's your SACRAL Chakra.

"Once I learned how my Chakras affected everything, in my being, it made me become more in touch with how I can honor my experiences, and lovingly help myself recalibrate." ~Michelle, Divine Brilliance - Owner

Chakra #3 - Solar Plexus - Manipura

Continue to move your attention up, just above the belly button, underneath your ribs, right where your diaphragm is. Say hello to your SOLAR PLEXUS Chakra. (Hola!)

Chakra #4 - Heart - Anahata

My favorite chakra is next, your HEART Chakra... Any guesses where this one is located? YOU GOT IT!... at the center of your chest, where your heart is!

Chakra #5 - Throat - Vishuddha

From your heart, bring your attention up to your THROAT Chakra ... here you'll find your throat chakra...cryptic, right?

Chakra #6 - Third Eye - Ajna

Then, keep moving up past your beautiful smile, up your nose (stay outside), and pause right between your brows. This point is your THIRD EYE Chakra! (Yep, you have three...or two, if you're a Cyclops!)

Chakra #7 - Crown - Sahasrara

Lastly, knowing just a little bit about where we're headed you can probably finish this one for me...Take your awareness up your forehead, beyond your hairline, where you once had a soft spot on your head ... you've made it to your CROWN chakra!

What's with all the colors?

Each chakra has a color that represents the frequency of that energy center....from root to crown, we'll use the traditional interpretation of colors association with chakras: red, orange, yellow, green, sky blue, indigo, violet/white. I took the liberty of sneaking it into the above section, for a little subliminal training. ...It wasn't just to add a splash of color.

There exists a method called "color therapy" that you can use to help balance your chakra; you simply select a stone, crystal, or foods, clothing or images with the color of the chakra you want to work with. Let's say you liked that purple amethyst in my store...you could have been drawn to it because your intuition is indicating an need to balance your crown chakra (you'll get to test this out soon). Our bodies can in their most basic form heal through "color therapy". Have you ever said "I normally don't like orange but today I really feel like wearing it!" (that's code for ..."Dear me, we need to work on the sacral chakra.")

And if we're talking crystals (which, we are because this is Divine Brilliance) here are unique variations and hues of colored stones and crystals so generously offered by mother nature in the form of fragments of her "body" (earth) that you can treasure and hold in your hands, or place on (and yes, sometimes in...no judgement) your body, or your home and even in your drinking water. (Disclaimer, not all stones/crystals are safe for infusing into your water, so please PLEASE don't go rogue throwing rocks in your water!) Can we pause for a big "Thank you MOTHER NATURE!"

But wait, there's more to it! (There always is.)

Our bodies are so beautifully complex and the deeper truth is that each chakra also has a purpose and system that it works with that governs the emotional and mental aspects of our personalities and bodies as well. (Mind-blown yet?)

So, IF <-- big IF you are in TUNE with yourself, you can sense when there is a misbalance, overactive or underactive chakra. By this, I mean observing your own behaviors, attitudes, and physical sensations, with awareness, and not labeling or judging.

Side note: If you've never done this, there are locations that do aura readings, which will capture chakra energy vibes and they can tell you which ones are under/overactive. You can also work with a specialist (typically a reiki master) to have them "scan" (this is with their own ability to manipulate/sense energy and can be done remotely sometimes as well) and assess, they may ask questions to confirm their findings and help you better understand the mind-body connection.

Your personal mind-body connection can be enhanced through meditation, breathwork, journaling, practicing yoga, and mindfulness among others. Let's do it all! Even periodical awareness body scans, where you bring your attention to all the parts of your body (like we did in the chakra name/locations section) are a great way to get into the groove of tuning into your chakras and yourself!

How will I know what chakra is doing what? or what I need to work on?

Let's turn this into an exercise. Yes? Ok! Grab a journal and something to write with (I'll wait)... Try not to look ahead just yet!!

In your journal, write down "RIGHT NOW, I AM FEELING..." and list all the emotions, and all of the physical sensations, you're experiencing in this moment, along with any mood/behavior observations you have about yourself.

DON'T READ BEYOND HERE WITHOUT YOUR LIST (I'm not yelling, I'm just excited!)

Once you have your list...check below for the chakra that corresponds to those things you've listed...It might be more than one! Then you'll know what chakra you can work with, start simple, with clothing color, or even grab a crayon, and scribble a blob in that color and stare at it! Then, move onto more involved things (see last section for what I mean).
